Simon Duflo

Simon Duflo is a filmmaker with a deep passion for the sea, particularly the Mediterranean. As an experienced freediver and director, he specializes in underwater and immersive documentaries, using innovative formats like 360° VR to bring viewers closer to the marine world. His work often centers on themes of ocean conservation, blending technical mastery with compelling storytelling.

Simon’s career highlights include creating Souvenirs de la mer Rouge, a 360° VR film shot underwater in Egypt, and Une visite des films Cissé, a VR documentary exploring Malian cinema. He also directed the feature-length documentary Médecine Tropicale in Mali. His expertise extends beyond directing to include co-creating web documentaries, producing social media shorts, and programming immersive works through his initiative, ESQUINA VR, which showcases Latin American virtual reality content.

Recently, Simon was selected for the ART4SEA artist residency in Ustica, Sicily, focusing on marine conservation, as well as an XR writing residency in Argentina to explore Le Chemin de l’Inca. His curatorial work includes programming for the "Panorama du Cinéma Colombien" festival and other cultural events, reflecting his multicultural approach to cinema.

A graduate of Telecom Paris and Université Paris 8, Simon holds advanced degrees in multimedia creation and film direction. He combines his artistic vision with technical expertise in post-production, public speaking, and collaborative work. Trilingual in French, English, and Spanish, Simon brings a global perspective to his projects, fueled by a lifelong commitment to marine preservation and storytelling.
