Sila Candansayar

Bio

Sila Candansayar, born in 1997 in Ankara, Turkey, is a rising artist who explores the links between philosophy and plastic creation. After higher studies in philosophy, she joined the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2020, where she is currently continuing her training in Dominique Figarella's studio.

His work quickly found international recognition. In 2023, she held her first solo exhibition at Studio Studiolo in Milan, an important milestone in her young career. In 2024, his works were presented in several prestigious galleries, including the DS Galerie and the John Ferrère Gallery, while participating in a group exhibition at the FRAC Île-de-France.

Between conceptual reflection and formal research, Sila Candansayar develops an artistic practice rooted in a philosophical approach, exploring the themes of materiality and perception with a singular sensitivity.

Residency project

During the Rocabella residency, Sila Candansayar explores the interactions between geometry and organicity, at the crossroads of her analytical approach and inspiration drawn from the Mediterranean environment. His work, usually based on elementary geometric shapes, will evolve to integrate the fluidity and incessant movements of the sea, a direct echo of his reflection on proliferating and fluctuating volumes.

Sila wishes to devote this residency to an immersion in matter, by focusing on earth, a material that she is approaching for the first time. This new exploration will allow him to confront the rigidity of geometric shapes with the plasticity and malleability of the earth, while being guided by its unpredictable characteristics.

Inspired by the observation and contemplation of Mediterranean landscapes, she aspires to translate in her sculptures the tension between structure and spontaneity, between stability and movement. This residency is an opportunity for her to renew her artistic language by experimenting with a material rooted in terrestrial traditions, while continuing to question the formal logics and spatial dynamics specific to her work.

The peaceful setting of La Rocabella then becomes a laboratory where land and sea interact through his creations, offering a profound reflection on materiality and the potential for the transformation of forms.
