Antoine Quehec
Bio
A passionate young filmmaker, this creator grew up in the Île-de-France region, far from the coast, which fed his fascination for whales and the marine environment. His artistic career is rich and varied, combining experience in directing, script-writing and framing.
In directing, he distinguished himself with ‘Dernière Flambée’, a short film selected at the Nikon Film Festival and noticed by SensCritique, as well as with ‘Silence ça pousse plus’, a sound documentary produced at ENSAV Toulouse.
On the writing front, he is currently working on the screenplay for ‘La Platanie’, produced by Juli Prod, and was awarded a Beaumarchais residency for his project ‘Mon Far Breton’. Other works include ‘Y'a un Moustique’, produced at ENSAV Toulouse, and ‘Sacha et les Monstres’, developed at the Sorbonne in Paris.
As a cameraman, Antoine has contributed to documentaries such as the ‘Ruhr Klavier Festival for Arte’ and ‘Les Dissonances for the Philharmonie’, collaborating with renowned cinematographers such as Jean Marc Bouzou. His experience also includes electro projects, music videos such as ‘Remède’ by DJ Pone and ‘Shuffle’ by TSHEGUE, as well as commercials for prestigious brands such as Chanel, Audemar Piguet, and L'Oréal. He has worked on feature films such as ‘Gueules Noires’ by Mathieu Turi and ‘De Gaulle’ by Antonin Baudry, as well as short films such as ‘‘Élancourt Mambo’. He has also taken part in international series, including ‘The Serpent Queen’, ‘Furies’ for Netflix, and ‘Spellbound’ for Disney. He has also supervised film workshops at the Clermont-Ferrand Festival and filmed performances for the Union Musicale de Dun-sur-Auron.
Residency project
Antoine's contribution to the residency project will be marked by an original and sensitive approach. Having grown up far from the coast, he will bring a fresh and candid view of whales, combining personal curiosity with a desire to learn about science. His ability to tell stories through an emotional and documentary prism will enable him to create a narrative that goes beyond mere scientific observation. He wants to explore local narratives, understand the history and contemporary presence of whales in the Mediterranean, and document their interactions with the human environment. His aim is to raise public awareness of the lack of understanding of ordinary nature, by combining poetry and scientific rigour. His underlying motivation is to defend environmental causes and reveal the complexity of marine ecosystems through a documentary that is both informative and emotionally engaging. His technical experience as a cameraman will also be crucial during the filming of the documentary.
